The Natural Sciences Museum of Valencia is a hidden jewel in another valuable corner of Turia city , the Royal Gardens , better known as Viveros .
Personally, I think it is a very interesting visit, because you could show curiosities like different kinds of skeletons of extinguished animals. Also, it’s used to show temporary exhibitions of great quality.

It’s not a very known and crowded museum and even it doesn’t have a web page, however I think you should visit it. The schedule is Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 16:30 to 20:30, Sundays and holidays from 10:00 to 15:00. The individual entrance are 2 Euros and we can seize on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, when the access is free.
The journey through the museum can be performed following 4 different areas.
We will find from a reproduction of a prehistoric cave to a reconstruction of Ramon y Canal studio, who won a Nobel Prize in medicine.

I have always interested in extinct animals and fossils, the exhibition areas that I particularly liked were the “Story of Life” and “Malacology.” These are all areas in the museum:
* The Valencian contribution to the Natural Sciences, getting close to prominent Valencian scientists,. Children probably will walk very fast in this area , but they will impress when they see the other places..

- The History of life, a journey through the different ages . The most important paleontological collection of the Museum is shown here, which is J. Rodrigo Botet’s legacy, with a fabulous sample of South America quaternary. It’s very important the Megaterio’s specimen, a mammal extinguished 8000 years ago which is the most emblematic piece of the Museum.

- Malacology, an interesting collection of mollusks shells, a complete representation of the Valencian fauna. Some fossils are very amazing because of their great size.

- Valencian ecosystems: the municipal area of Valencia possesses a great richness and variety of ecosystems. River, sea, gardens, the Albufera Nature reserve and Dehesa.
… These interesting places complete the tour through the Museum.

Museum Natural Sciences
The Museum organizes guided tours and didactic free workshops since 2004 and the main goal is to show the richness of the natural world so that they can appreciate y preserve them, not only past history but also present and future of our ecosystems.
These visits are made by specialists in Biology and in didactics of Natural Sciences. At the end of the tour, all of the people work with real fossils and pedagogic materials consisting of didactic notebooks specifically designed according to ages and profiles of users..

The visits and the workshops are Tuesday through Sunday from 10 to 14 (o’clock) throughout the year and as we said before, they are free. A fantastic way to be close to the natural science and our environment. It would be very interesting for the children , but also the adults could learn many curiosities. And, don’t forget to enjoy the gardens.

In 1969 the Almudin was declared a monument of historical heritage because of the artistic meaning. The building was used like a trade place originally including the trade of wheat and cereal. Since 1996 it has been used like a room for exhibitions.

The basilica competes with the cathedral because they want to attract more believers. It is the asylum of the Geperudeta (the small hunchback), the virgin knows that that’s why she wants to protect homeless. The statue is Gothic, with a Byzantine face and long hair adorned with many jewels donated by the believers . The basilica was built between 1652 and 1667 by Diego Martínez Ponce of Urruana and it is located in Plaza de la Virgen .
